Ceremonies Generally include:
Processional
Invocation
Declaration of Intent
Exchange of rings
Pronouncement
Recessional
*Any and all of these can be modified to include Unity Candle, Jumping the Broom, etc.
The Unity Candle:
The couple each take a lit candle and simultaneously light a third larger "unity candle." They may blow out their individual lights, or leave them lit, symbolizing that they have not lost their individuality in their unity.
The Sand Ceremony:
The couple each pours different colored sand into a single glass, creating a layered look with the sand. The new mixture cannot be separated into its original halves, signifying a lifelong, irreversible bond.
Jumping the broom:
The family places the broom on the ground, and the couple jump over it together. The broom can then decorate a place of honor in their home.
Wine Ceremony:
The couple each take a carafe of wine and pour it into a single glass, which they both drink. Just like the water and sand ceremony, the parts, once mixed cannot be separated. Additionally, the couple drinks the wine, which symbolizes how their love nourishes them.
Unity Marbles Bowl:
This tradition signifies the real beauty of a marriage. A marriage is not just a bond between two individuals but includes the blending of the families too. The family members, elders and parents of the bride and the groom are asked to mix marbles in a bowl, which results in a lovely mosaic. This mosaic is the representative of the idea of bringing together two families.
